Championship
The first fixture of the 2026/7 Gwent League will host the Championship race for the South Wales region.
Athletes eligible for South Wales will need to declare their entry ahead of the race individually or via their club’s Team Manager, who can opt to submit their athletes all at once. There is a spreadsheet template in the link below.
- There is no entry fee to enter these Championships.
- Athletes must be affiliated with a UK Athletics registered club.
- The deadline for entries will be 23:59 Saturday 10 October to allow for any last minute athletes to sign up.
- No entries will be taken after this time, and only declared athletes will be included in individual and team results.
Categories
Medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female will be awarded in the following categories:
- U12 (over 10 and under 12 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U14 (over 12 and under 14 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U16 (over 14 and under 16 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U18 (over 16 and under 18 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U20 (over 17 and under 20 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- Senior (over 20 by 31/12/2026)
- V35
- V45
- V55
- V65
Medals will be awarded to the first three senior athletes to finish regardless of age category. Only one medal can be won, so if a master athlete wins an overall medal, their age category medal will be awarded to the next finisher.
Masters athletes (V35 and above) must be over 35/45/55/65 on the day of the championships. M65 athletes must run in their designated race and not the senior distance.
Guests from non-registered Gwent League clubs are able to run and be eligible for the championships as long as they are running for their first-claim club. Please see the Gwent League rules for details of how to run as a guest.
Team awards
There will be team awards for the first three clubs in each age category, as well as the top three clubs overall in the senior race regardless of age category. Junior and senior teams will comprise of the first four athletes to finish, and the first three from masters age categories.
Positions for each team’s athletes will be added together, with the lowest combined score winning.
Results
Regional results will be taken from the official results once they have been finalised by the race organiser. Provisional regional results will be distributed and, once confirmed, medals will be distributed at subsequent cross-country events.
Selection for Inter-Regionals

The Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships will take place on 21 November at Dolerw Park, Newtown. Team Managers will select athletes to represent South Wales to compete against the other Welsh regions.
Athletes will need to declare their availability for this race before the South Wales Cross Country Championships. Athletes must be affiliated with a UK Athletics registered club to be considered for selection.
Categories
Up to 15 male and female athletes (5 for V65) can be selected for the following categories:
- U14 (Over 12 and under 14 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U16 (Over 14 and under 16 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U18 (Over 16 and under 18 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- U20 (Over 17 and under 20 at midnight on 31/08/2027)
- Senior (Over 20 by 31/12/2026)
- V35
- V45
- V55
- V65

Selection
The first available 9 finishers in each age category at the South Wales Cross Country Championships will be offered places in the inter-regional team, with the remaining 6 places at the Team Manager’s discretion, based on recent form.
If selected, you will be initially contacted by email. Please respond to this as soon as possible to accept the place so that we can confirm teams, or have time to call up other athletes.
Selection for the UK CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships (March 2027) will be made initially from athletes who compete in the Welsh Inter-Regionals, with further places filled at the Team Manager’s discretion.
