The Region held it’s AGM on Friday 10 July 2026, and we’re happy to share details of the changes to the committee.
A new 2-year presidential term began with Rowland Williams being nominated as the new President. We will look to ‘Rowlie’ for guidance after his 30+ years of serving as an athletics coach for Pontyclun AC.
Chair
After 4 years of dedication and hard work as Secretary, Kyle Perry (Barry & Vale Harriers) will be stepping up to the previously vacant Chair role. In many ways, Kyle has been acting this role for the past 2 years, but can now concentrate on leading the committee, as well as liaising with the other Welsh regions and Welsh Athletics. Kyle’s focus will be on the Regional Development Plan and athlete development across all disciplines.
We are extremely grateful to Kyle for his work as Secretary and we hope with a renewed committee, we can lighten his burden so he can concentrate on promoting and leading the Region.
Secretary
In fact, the Secretary vacancy left such a gap we had to get two people to fill it! In a slight change to this role, it will be held jointly by Victoria Garvey (Cardiff Athletics) and Stewart Harding (CDF Runners).
This split role will see Victoria covering Track & Field, while Stewart will continue his work on Road, Cross Country, Trail, and Fell & Mountain. We hope that working in this way means that the Track & Field and non-Track & Field worlds can be treated equally with a dedicated committee member to lead both sets of disciplines.
The secretary role also includes organising meetings, taking and distributing minutes, and acting as the main link between the Region, sub-committees, and clubs.
Welfare
Another change is for our outgoing President Ron Morris (San Domenico RC) who will move the Male Welfare Officer role. Steph Iveson (Bridgend AC) also joins the team as Female Welfare Officer.
This is a vital role that can provide support directly to athletes and coaches in the region, as we recognise that there may be times when contacting a club Welfare Officer might be uncomfortable, but speaking to Welsh Athletics might seem daunting. The role can also support club Welfare Officers who might need additional advice.
Other roles
Jen Stone (Albany Road Run Club) and Fiona Campbell (Pontypridd Roadents) will continue as Treasurer and Officials Administrator, respectively.
Chris Pratt (Ogmore Phoenix) will attend the Welsh Athletics General council and feed back to the committee.
The South Wales Regional Athletics Council (SWRAC) is made up from representatives from clubs and school districts across the region. We meet regularly to organise competitions, develop athletes, and come together as a team to compete across the UK.
Anyone with an interest in the region is welcome to attend meetings, and get involved to support all of our athlete and coaches. There are supporting roles in areas such as marketing, officiating, team managing, and social media that will become available over the course of the year.
