Selection: CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships 2026

7 March 2026, Wollaton Park, Nottingham

Team Managers will select athletes to represent South Wales to compete against the other Welsh Regions, Scottish Districts, English Counties, and Northern Ireland. We will be aiming to build upon our excellent winning performance at the Welsh Inter-Regional Championship in November, and the increasingly strong teams we have been able to field at the Inter Counties Championship in the recent years.

The primary selection race for this event is the Welsh Inter-Regional Championship that took place in November 2025.

Athletes who declared their availability for the South Wales Championships at Margam Park and the Welsh Inter-Regional Championships are already within the selection system for this season and do not need to declare their availability for selection again.

However, if you were unavailable for either or both of these fixtures, or otherwise didn’t declare your availability, and wish to be considered for selection, please advise us of your availability as soon as possible: endurance.swrac@gmail.com

We would also welcome any offer of support on the day of competition to help distribute numbers, take photos, and make sure all our runners are at their start line at the right time!

Selection

For the junior age groups the scoring/medalling finishers in each age category (8x U13/U15/U17, 4x U20) at the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships will be automatically offered places in the Inter Counties squad, with the remaining places at the Team Manager’s discretion, based on recent form.

For the senior squads the 8 scoring/medalling finishers at the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships will be automatically offered places in the Inter Counties squad, alongside any masters athletes finishing ahead of the final scoring senior runner, with the remaining places at the Team Manager’s discretion, based on recent form.

Due to the declaration deadline of 7 February we are aiming to complete squads by 31 January: please advise of availability as soon as possible.

If selected, you will be contacted by email. It is the athlete’s or parent’s responsibility to respond as soon as possible to accept the place so that teams can be confirmed or other athletes can be called up.
